The Nissan GT-R R35 is a notoriously capable, yet exceptionally heavy, twin-turbocharged AWD weapon. While its factory engineering translates immense power into forward thrust effortlessly on the street, sustained circuit driving quickly exposes its thermal limits. Chasing peak dyno numbers is futile if you can't maintain fluid stability, brake consistency, and drivetrain temperatures over consecutive hot laps.
This white GT-R R35 was brought to ATOMIC-SHOP with a clear objective: convert a heavy street car into an uncompromising, thermally stable track weapon. Looking past superficial mods and dyno sheet bragging rights, we focused entirely on reinforcing the systems hit hardest by extreme thermal and kinetic stress—the GR6 transaxle, the VR38DETT fuel and exhaust channels, braking friction, chassis kinematics, and the driver's interface.
The result is a bulletproof R35 circuit platform, utilizing top-tier motorsport hardware from HKS, DODSON, PFC, APR, ADVAN, MICHELIN, SWIFT, and RED LINE OIL.

The Circuit Challenge: Overcoming Heat and Kinetic Mass
In standard form, the R35 delivers mind-bending acceleration. However, pushing a 1,700 kg chassis, two turbochargers, and a rear-mounted GR6 transaxle to the limit creates severe thermal loading.
While street driving provides adequate cooling time, continuous track use—with wide-open sweeps and heavy braking zones—rapidly overwhelms OEM heat exchangers. Transmission fluids boil, engine bay heat causes power-robbing ignition retard, brakes absorb staggering amounts of kinetic energy, and heavy curb weights punish the tires. Our priority for this build was total mechanical stamina.
GR6 Transaxle Fortification: HKS, ARD, and DODSON
The Achilles' heel of a track-driven GT-R is its GR6 dual-clutch transaxle. During aggressive, high-rpm shifting, fluid temperatures soar, often sending the car into a protective limp mode that slashes engine power to save the gearbox.
To cure this thermal bottleneck, we integrated a high-capacity HKS DCT Cooler Kit. By increasing the fluid volume and maximizing external cooling surface area, GR6 temperatures remain completely stable during long stints.
To further bulletproof the transaxle internals against extreme lateral g-forces, we installed an oversized ARD Transmission Oil Pan alongside a comprehensive DODSON hardware package. This includes an anti-surge plate, an uprated pan filter, a differential air scoop, and heavy-duty input shaft seals. This combination guarantees consistent fluid pickup and safeguards the drivetrain from oil starvation under high cornering loads.
VR38DETT Fueling, Exhaust Dynamics, and Heat Management
The VR38DETT V6 is a brilliant tuning platform, but track reliability requires rock-solid air-fuel ratios (AFR) and minimal exhaust backpressure.
To ensure a steady, high-volume fuel supply under maximum boost, we upgraded the fueling architecture with high-output Walbro pumps and precisely matched ID1000cc injectors, ensuring uninterrupted delivery all the way to redline.
To drastically improve exhaust flow and thermal relief, the restrictive factory downpipes were swapped for high-flow ARD Down-pipes, paired with a free-breathing HKS Legamax exhaust. This combination slashes turbine backpressure, significantly reduces exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), and provides a deep, aggressive motorsport tone.
Combustion stability is secured by colder-grade HKS spark plugs. To protect vital engine bay wiring and fluid lines from radiant heat, we wrapped sensitive components in THERMO-TEC heat sleeving and reflective DEI Quick Fix Tape.
Unyielding Stopping Power: PFC, DODSON, and PAGID RACING
Bringing 1,700 kg of mass down from high speeds repeatedly requires a motorsport-grade braking solution. The goal was zero brake fade, a rock-solid pedal, and predictable friction characteristics.
Up front, we mounted 2-piece floating PFC V3 brake discs matched with endurance-spec PFC 08 race pads. The 08 compound is famous for its flat torque curve and excellent wear rate, offering aggressive initial bite without losing modulation at peak temperatures.
The rear axle mirrors this approach with matching PFC replacement rotors and PFC 08 rear pads to maintain a perfectly balanced deceleration profile.
To actively lower rotor temperatures, a DODSON R35 Brake Cooling Kit was added, directing fresh, high-velocity air straight to the brake centers. Finally, the hydraulics were bled with ultra-high-boiling-point PAGID RACING Brake Fluid to eliminate any chance of vapor lock.
Unsprung Mass and Mechanical Grip: ADVAN GT, Michelin, and Swift
Reducing unsprung weight is critical on a heavy AWD car to improve damper efficiency and steering precision.
We ditched the heavy stock rollers for forged ADVAN GT Premium monoblock wheels in Racing Titanium Blue (20x10 ET35 front / 20x12 ET20 rear). Shedding rotational mass noticeably sharpens the GT-R's turn-in behavior and reduces the workload on the suspension.
For maximum mechanical grip, the ADVANs are wrapped in ultra-sticky MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in a staggered 285/35 R20 front and 325/30 R20 rear setup, securely fastened by forged MUTEKI SR45R steel lug nuts.
Chassis kinematics were optimized using SWIFT Springs Sport Spec R. By lowering the center of gravity and increasing the spring rate, body pitch and roll are sharply reduced while working seamlessly with the factory electronic dampers.

Aerodynamic Stability: APR and Stillen
To keep the chassis planted during high-speed cornering and heavy braking, balanced downforce is essential.
An adjustable carbon fiber APR Performance rear wing provides substantial rear-axle stability. Up front, the aerodynamic profile is enhanced by a STILLEN front lip spoiler and matching side skirts, which smooth out underbody airflow and plant the nose at high speeds.

Cockpit Ergonomics and Safety Hardware
Fighting high g-forces in stock seats leads to driver fatigue and sloppy steering inputs. We replaced the OEM front seats with supportive RECARO Pole Position fixed-back buckets in black velour.
Secured with low-profile ATOMIC seat brackets, the driver sits lower, improving both the car's center of gravity and tactile feedback from the chassis. A lightweight 2 kg OMP aluminum fire extinguisher was securely mounted within the cabin to comply with strict track safety standards.
Verdict: Engineered for Relentless Lap Consistency
This Nissan GT-R R35 build underscores the necessity of targeted mechanical upgrades over superficial power figures. By systematically eradicating thermal bottlenecks, optimizing friction components, and securing drivetrain fluid dynamics, ATOMIC-SHOP has delivered a GT-R engineered to run hard, repeatable lap times with unwavering reliability.
